CHRONOLOGY
Nicole
Stenger created the first immersive Virtual Reality movie:
ANGELS between
1989 & 1992.
Following
Tom Furness' theory, the piece was conceived for the 3 senses:
vision, audio & touch, though only vision, audio and a non
tactile data glove could be implemented at the time.
The
lack of computing power also reduced visuals to the bare minimum!
But
the entire movie was completed. And the higher resolution visuals
for a more advanced version of the technology were designed. These
original models can still be experienced today. (See video)
After
circumstances surrounding immersive VR made its pursuit impracticable,
if not utterly dangerous, Nicole Stenger moved her VR artistic
concepts to VRML, a more convivial, open to all, web-based environment.
However
the 2 VRML movies: CHAMBERS
(2001) and DYNASTY
(2007-2009) were also conceived for immersive VR.
